Gastonia police arrest teen suspect in 15-year-old girl’s shooting death

GASTONIA, N.C. — Police arrested a 15-year-old boy Thursday morning in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old girl in Gastonia on Christmas Eve.

Officers with the Gastonia Police Patrol said they made the arrest around 10:30 a.m., with help from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

The suspect is being charged with second-degree murder.

Officers said they were called out to the area of Barkley Street in Gastonia just after 11 a.m. on Christmas Eve for a report of a shooting.

Police said the girl who was shot and killed was 16. However, her obituary indicates she was 15 years old.
