Gastonia manufacturer cutting jobs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Gastonia-based Parkdale Mills is closing its plant in Yadkin County, a move that will result in layoffs for 63 employees there, according a notice on file with the N.C. Department of Commerce.

The yarn manufacturer says in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter that operations at its Plant 25, at 114 Woodruff Road in Boonville, would begin winding down toward a final closure date of June 29.

Parkdale says that some of the affected employees may be offered a transfer to other plants. However, it was unable at the time of the filing to determine which workers, if any, would get those opportunities. No bumping rights exist, and workers at the plant are not represented by a union.
