Gaston County teacher to return to classroom after injury

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A Gaston County teacher is preparing to return to the classroom after months of fighting for his life.

Channel 9 has been following Adam Lynn's progress after he suffered a severe brain injury in a skateboarding accident earlier this year.

Lynn was in Tennessee with his family over Memorial Day weekend when he got on a skateboard and fell, a fall that almost ended his life.

"The next day, they were really concerned about my survival," Adam Lynn said.

His brain was swelling and doctors confirmed the husband and father of two suffered a brain injury.

Adam Lynn barely remembers any of it but his wife, Stephanie Lynn, can't forget it.

"It was definitely scary, also definitely sad," she said.

But she chose faith over fear and kept friends and family updated through Facebook.

"The day we thought he wasn't going to make it through the day, that was a very scary thought but I also knew God would not abandon me through all that," Stephanie Lynn said.

Loved ones and strangers rallied sending prayers online and in church.

Adam Lynn woke up three weeks later.

And by the time he woke up, Adam Lynn was greeted by thousands of people rooting for him.

He'd survived but doctors feared he could still have long-term damage.

He is doing much better than expected after three months later.

Last week doctors replaced the part of his skull they removed after the accident

"My brain and my body came back and I'm really grateful for that," he said.

\It's been a struggle and he gives credit for his recovery to God.

"It really helped me think more about how important every moment of life is," Adam Lynn said.

He must undergo one more evaluation before he can be cleared to return to teaching.
