GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A Gaston County teacher was placed on paid leave while the school district investigates her in relation to a Facebook page.
Some of the parents Eyewitness News spoke with who had heard about the allegations are not happy.
The teacher isn't working after the district says the school received an anonymous tip about what was on a Facebook page, though officials would not say whose page it is.
A screenshot of the Facebook page showed a photograph with a red marker circling a student's mistake where the teenager misspelled "human being."
The school district is trying to determine Thursday if North Gaston teacher, Shanna Sigmon Moore, posted it and then commented "Lordy ... see what I go through every day
"She's a teacher," said parent Teresa Moore. "She should be wanting to teach instead of making fun of the child for not being able to do the stuff."
"There's no need to belittle anybody," said parent Mara Beth. "I mean of anybody has a problem you help them with it."
Sigmon Moore is an English teacher at the school. Three photos of a students' writing assignments were posted on Facebook and then someone using her name commented about their mistakes.
The posts weren't shared publicly, but Facebook friends could see the photos.
Stephanie Walls, who has a ninth-grader, believes that is still wrong, if it is true.
"I still don't think it is OK," Walls said. "Because that is that child's privacy. The children's privacy."
In one of the photos, the sentence "the Scottsboro trial took place in Scottsboro" is underlined with the word "redundant" next to it and the comment, "You don't say so."
The school district has suspended Moore with pay while they investigate.
"They get enough criticism from their peers and stuff," said grandmother Susan Hedgepath. "I don't think teachers should. Teachers should be there for them. "
Moore has worked at the school for the past two years. The school district said its investigation should only take a few days.
