GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Veterans Day is all about honoring those who dedicated their lives to our freedom.

In Gaston County, the district attorney is trying to make sure the 14,000 veterans the county get a fair shake in the justice system.

Gaston County District Attorney Travis Page says veterans’ experiences should hold more weight in court.

“They have experienced trauma like no other,” he said.

Page said he has seen the stress that war and preparing for combat can have on veterans in court, and those issues left untreated have brought veterans back through the justice system on new charges.

>> In the video at the top of the page, Channel 9′s Gaston County reporter Ken Lemon spoke with Page about his plans to start a court focused solely on veterans.
