BESSEMER CITY, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation will begin a bridge improvement project in Gaston County on Monday, closing a portion of Long Creek Road near Wandering Lane.
Construction crews will replace the bridge’s beams and deck. Officials expect the project to take about one month to complete.

To bypass the work zone, drivers will follow a signed detour along Lewis Farm Road, N.C. 161 and Long Creek Road.
State transportation officials urge motorists to allow additional travel time when traveling through the area, remain alert, and avoid distracted driving.
