Gaston County animal shelter ordered to make $25,000 worth in repairs

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A Gaston County animal shelter has been ordered to make $25,000 worth of repairs in three months.

State inspectors paid a surprise visit last month to the 50-year-old shelter in Dallas.

They found that barriers between kennels need improvement, along with the shelter's ventilation system.

The shelter is preparing requests for bids to make the needed changes.

A new animal shelter is expected to be built by 2019.
