GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Family and friends are searching for a Gaston County mother who has been missing more than two weeks.
The 27-year-old took a lunch break from Walmart and hasn't been seen since.
Her sister, Amy Stonger, was making more fliers Thursday to launch her own search.
“I just feel helpless and I have no options,” Amy Stonger said.
Liz Stonger was last seen outside the Walmart in Belmont. On Oct. 14, Stonger smiled and waved goodbye to her friends and co-workers as she left on her lunch break. They expected her to return minutes later, but no one has reported seeing her since then.
“It feels like a lifetime,” Amy Stonger said.
Police said the night Liz Stonger disappeared, her cellphone pinged near Marion, likely receiving a voice message left by her mother or sister.
Her Chevy Lumina is also missing, and her bank and credit cards have not been used.
“I feel like I'm living a nightmare, but nightmares don't last this long,” Amy Stonger said.
This weekend, Amy Stonger is making her second trip to the mountains to pass out fliers. She hopes to find a clue that ends this nightmare for her and Liz Stonger's 2-year-old son.
“It's heart-wrenching to hear him say, ‘I want to see my mommy. I miss my mommy,’” Amy Stonger said.
Belmont Police said they have no reason to suspect foul play, but they believe something went wrong.
