SALISBURY, N.C. — The city of Salisbury officially said goodbye to a beloved leader.

Major Karen Alexander, who passed away at the end of last year, was laid to rest on Saturday.

Alexander was first elected to the city council in 2013. She went on to serve two separate terms.

She was known for being focused on the community’s economic base and opportunities for residents and investing in the city’s historically Black college, Livingstone College.

“However, what we always remember most about Mayor Karen Alexander will not be limited to bricks, mortar, and designs. What will remember ... what I will remember most of all was her willingness to show up, and man, did she show up,” said Anthony Davis, President of Livingstone College.
