Funeral expenses for SC first-grader Faye Swetlik will be covered

CAYCE, S.C. — The family of Faye Swetlik, the 6-year-old South Carolina girl who was found dead last Thursday, will not have to pay any money for the child’s funeral, according to WECT.

All expenses for Faye’s funeral will be paid for by Caughman Harman Funeral Home in Lexington, another example of the community rallying behind the little girl’s family.

It was not immediately clear when Faye’s funeral will take place.

Faye, a first-grader at Springdale Elementary School, disappeared while playing outside her home in Cayce last Monday before her body was found three days later in a wooded area.

Evan Antley, with the Cayce Department of Public Safety, said the girl’s death is linked to the death of 30-year-old Coty Taylor, a neighbor of Faye’s who was found dead in his home shortly after Faye’s body was discovered.

Autopsies for both Faye and Taylor were performed on Saturday but the results will not be released until Tuesday, out of respect for Faye’s family.

On Saturday, Faye’s body was brought to the funeral home after her autopsy in Charleston. She was given a police escort by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, which stayed with her throughout the entire journey.
