PINEVILLE, N.C. — A local gym will honor a college counselor and bride-to-be who was killed in southwest Charlotte.

Pineville CrossFit on Polk Street will hold a memorial workout-of-the-day and fundraiser for Amanda Strous, 27.

Officials said she was killed last month and her apartment on Toscana Way was set on fire to cover it up.

Event organizers said they want to use the day to celebrate Strous.

The event will be on July 30, which would've been Strous’s wedding day.

All funds raised will be donated to her scholarship funds and family.

Strous grew up in York, Pennsylvania, and moved to Charlotte last summer.

She also spent years as an assistant field hockey coach at her alma mater, Shippensburg University.

The man accused of killing Strous was arrested in Nevada more than two weeks ago.

Mathew Benner was extradited back to Charlotte on July 4.

He is accused of killing Strous and setting her apartment on fire.

Benner may have been stalking her, sources said.

Benner was indicted by grand jury on Monday. His next court date has not been set. The case was transferred to Superior Court.
