Frye Regional Medical Center announces its 2012 Nurses of the Year

HICKORY, N.C. — Frye Regional Medical Center honored their 2012 Nurses of the Year at a Florence Nightingale Tea and Recognition Ceremony May 10 and again May 11 at the Crawdad’s Stadium for outstanding service and dedicated care to their patients.

Valerie Wright, CNA and Shirley Erwin, CNA were voted Nursing Assistants of the Year. Wright works in float pool and has been with Frye for 15 years. Erwin works at Frye’s South Campus and has been employed with Frye for 20 years.

For Nurses of the Year, Jane Gullet, RN in Neuro-Intensive Care, who has been with Frye for over 30 years, and Gail Houston, RN, a certified wound ostomy care nurse who has been with Frye for 14 years, were honored.

Registered Nurse Tammy Walker, a nurse manager for Frye’s Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Post-Partum (LDRP) was named Nurse Leader of the Year. Walker has been with Frye for five years.

The Guiding Light Award went to Bessie Richard, RN, Director of Informatics, who has been with Frye nearly two years.

In addition, Frye Regional Medical Center nurses participated in a “Nursing White Out” during Nurses Week to recognize, celebrate, and honor North Carolina as the first state to license nurses.
