Fred Durst, Limp Bizkit will not be performing at Roses store in Morganton

MORGATON, N.C. — Sorry to disappoint, neither Fred Durst nor Limp Bizkit are scheduled to perform at the Roses in Morganton.

The news comes after an event surfaced on Facebook advertising a Durst show with more than 1,000 people said are attending.

The event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Roses Discount Store in Morganton.

Roses management confirmed to Channel 9 the event is a hoax. A manager said they have been receiving calls nonstop asking about purchasing tickets.

The Facebook link advertises tickets for $3.50 in advance and $5 at the door. VIP tickets can be purchased for $20 or $10 with a purchase at Roses.

An image of a fake ticket has surfaced online. The ticket lists Milli Vanilli as an opening act. Rob Pilatus, half of the pop duo, died in 1998.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Roses said, "We are not affiliated with the Facebook event regarding the Fred Durst appearance in Morganton, N.C. In the future for any events associated with Roses please follow our official Facebook page to avoid any confusion."

Outside the Morgaton Roses location, management put a sign up saying there is no Limp Bizkit concert scheduled for Thursday.

The fake event has brought surprise and laughter to the Morgantan area.

"If they ever have anything around here, it is not in this parking lot. I guarantee it," Brenda Bailey, a Roses customer, said.

"I laughed about it because, obviously, it is a joke, but some people want to see Fred Durst bad enough they are willing to come to Roses to check him out," Daniel Presnell, a customer, said.

Morganton's population is around 16,000 people, according to the most recent U.S. Census.

Durst is the lead singer of the rock band Limp Bizkit. The Gastonia native could not be reached for comment. A recent Instagram suggests he could be in or leaving for South America.

This is not the first hoax Limp Bizkit concert.

Last month in Dayton, Ohio, hundreds went to a Sunoco gas station after a fake advertisement for a Limp Bizkit show was created. CLICK HERE to read more.

Channel 9 spoke with the organizer of the fake Morganton event, Bobby Canipe Jr.

No, Fred Durst is not performing in Morganton tomorrow

Canipe said he got the idea to create the fake show after seeing a similar event advertising a band playing Chilis.

"I thought it was pretty funny so I thought of the two most random things, being Fred Durst and Roses," he said. "I made it as a joke and shared it around. Within two days it just blew up."

Canipe said he is expecting hundreds to show up to Roses Thursday and wants to use the publicity for a good cause.

"I have been encouraging people to come out and purchase at least one item while we are there," he said. "I feel we have an opportunity to use this and benefit Roses, a local store I've shopped at since I was a kid. If people show up thinking they're going to see Fred Durst who knows, maybe he will show."

Durst could not be reached for comment.

Morganton police said they are aware of the hoax, but do not plan on taking action.
