Woman, 76, dies after 4-vehicle crash in Hickory

HICKORY, N.C. — A 76-year-old woman who was flown to the hospital after a crash in Hickory involving four vehicles has died.

The wreck happened on Second Street Northeast near 13th Avenue Northeast around 8 a.m. Friday.

Police say a Nissan Rogue collided with a Toyota Tundra, causing a chain reaction and damaging two other vehicles. The Nissan flipped in the process.

Officers said the driver of the Nissan, identified as Judy Sipe, was the one who was flown to the hospital in Charlotte. Firefighters broke the windshield of the vehicle in order to rescue her.

Sipe died from her injuries on July 8.

The Hickory Police Department said on Monday that Sipe had suffered a medical emergency at the time of the crash.

No one else was hurt in the crash.

Police said it doesn’t appear anyone was speeding. No charges are expected to be filed.
