Founders buy Appalachian Mountain Brewery back from Anheuser-Busch

BOONE, N.C. — The co-founders of one of a western North Carolina brewery that had become a portfolio brand for Anheuser-Busch InBev have brought it back under local control.

Cousins Nathan Kelischek and Chris Zieber founded what is now Appalachian Mountain Brewery and Cidery in Boone in 2011, opening a taproom there two years later and helping to forge the state’s reputation as a craft-beer destination. The duo partnered with the Craft Brew Alliance in 2014 to help boost production and distribution and, in 2018, CBA fully acquired AMB and its brand. CBA, in turn, came under the Anheuser-Busch umbrella in 2021, bringing AMB into the fold.

Now, Kelischek and Zieber, who’ve remained involved with the operation in the meantime, have bought the business back from the beer behemoth, a statement on the AMB website confirms.
