Founder of NoDa brewery cooks up plans for pizzeria at revamped mill

CHARLOTTE — Livy’s Neapolitan Pizzeria — by the team behind Heist Brewery — will be slinging its signature pies at Gibson Mill later this year.

The pizza concept will operate a 650-square-foot food stall at that adaptive-reuse project in Concord. It should open by this fall, says Kurt Hogan, CEO and founder of the brewery and pizza ventures.

The mill is at 325 McGill Ave. NW in Concord.

This marks the second location for Livy’s, following one at Heist Brewery Barrel Arts near Camp North End. It opened in August 2020.

“I always knew the potential to have more locations was out there,” Hogan says. “I thought it was a great opportunity to test the waters if we’re going to do multiple locations.”

Heist also operates its NoDa flagship — Charlotte’s first brewpub, which opened in 2012. Hogan initially planned for Heist’s NoDa brewery to be a simple pizza and beer garden, but it morphed into something bigger.

“Livy’s was kind of a way to go back to the simplified vision I had,” Hogan says.
