CHARLOTTE — Young golfers across the U.S. grabbed their clubs and hit the greens on Sunday for the annual Charlotte Junior Open at the Rocky River Golf Course.

The tournament is hosted by the National Junior Golf Association (NJGA) every year on the first weekend of June. Athletes from across the country between the ages of four and eighteen were invited the play in the event. At this year’s tournament, the youngest player was eight-years-old.

Channel 9 spoke with the owner of the NJGA, Victor Wiggins, about the importance of hosting sports events for children of all ages.

“Just seeing the kids grow as themselves, growing their game earning college scholarships, that’s the most enjoyment I see from it,” Wiggins told Channel 9.
