GASTONIA, N.C. — A significant piece of Gastonia’s Franklin Urban Sports and Entertainment District is coming along with hopes of bringing residents to the area early next year.
Lansing Melbourne Group is redeveloping the historic Trenton Mill into loft apartments at a site next to CaroMont Health Park at FUSE. Kaufman Lynn Construction is LMG’s general contractor. Ben Pruitt, director of preconstruction for Kaufman Lynn, said today the first units are being targeted for completion in January or February. Leasing is expected to begin in December, he said.

The project is a key piece of the FUSE District, which aims to connect downtown Gastonia with Loray Mill. The Trenton Mill project is the first FUSE development that includes residential units.
In total, the project will produce 85 loft apartments from the former textile mill building, including studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, Pruitt said. Around 20 units will be completed in early 2022, according to Jake Somsel, senior project manager for Kaufman Lynn. The entire redevelopment is being targeted for completion in June 2022.
