Electrical issue caused southwest Charlotte house fire, officials say

CHARLOTTE — Officials said 30 firefighters responded Monday afternoon to a house fire on Rock Island Drive near Emerald Point Drive in Steel Creek.

An electrical issue started the fire that caused about $60,000 worth of damage, Charlotte fire officials said.

Flames and smoke could be seen coming out of the two-story house. Fire crews were also seen on top of the home working to control the flames.

Charlotte Fire said it took crews about 20 minutes to control the flames.

Authorities said no one was hurt in the accidental fire. Two people were displaced and are staying with family. A family dog and cat died in the fire.
