HAVELOCK, N.C. — A fire burning in the Croatan National Forest is now 30% contained and 36,000 acres in size, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The fire has been burning throughout this week in Havelock, North Carolina. Officials said Saturday evening’s thunderstorms helped the Great Lakes Fire. The fire’s northern perimeter is 5 miles southwest of Coastal Carolina Regional Airport.
No one has been hurt as a result of the fire and no structures are currently threatened. The cause is still under investigation, according to officials.
Those who are traveling on highways adjacent to where the fire is burning should be cautious. The Southern Area Red Team, a Type 1 Incident Management Team will arrive Sunday to assist.
Higher pressure, 30–35% humidity, and much lighter winds are expected Sunday.
