Charlotte fire crews responded to the building, which they told Channel 9 was once used as a car paint shop, on Valleydale Road, near Fred D. Alexander Blvd. around 6:30 a.m. and reported heavy flames and smoke coming from the structure, along with multiple explosions.

Officials said the entire building had collapsed in the fire.

It took crews about 15 minutes to get the fire under control but Valleydale Road was still closed.
