Fire crews were alerted around 9:20 a.m. about the fire on Madelia Place. The first firefighters at the scene reported large flames shooting from the home.

Firefighters from Mooresville, Mount Mourne and South Iredell helped get the fire knocked down, and it was under control by 10 a.m.

Channel 9 flew over the house and could see that the flames had destroyed most of the roof. Firefighters were still spraying water on the home more than an hour after the fire started.

The siding on the home next door was melted off from the intense heat.

No injuries were reported and officials said the family who lived in the home was able to make it out safely. The American Red Cross was called to help them.

Channel 9 crews could see the family across the street, watching firefighters work, clearly devastated.

Eyewitness News reporter Mark Becker spoke with several neighbors, including Lesley Wilson, whose husband saw the flames from the roof of their house. They called 911 and she came running to help.

“When I come running up the street they were just coming out of the house,” she said. “Everybody got out and they started knocking on neighbors’ doors and all of them were out and everybody’s safe.”

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
