ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Firefighters from seven different departments helped battle a 2-alarm fire at the Apple Baking Company in Rowan County early Tuesday morning.
Fire crews were called to the business around 6:45 a.m. on Apple Road, off Woodleaf Road, northwest of Salisbury.
When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy flames coming from outside the business as well as the roof. Once crews were able to knock down the flames they entered the building, but did not find any fire inside.
The fire marshal was investigating the possibility that filters used in the baking process -- which can become very hot -- were left to cool on a loading dock in the back of the business near some wood pallets.
Nobody was inside the building at the time and no injuries were reported.
