Fire involving 200 railroad ties burns for several hours in Statesville

STATESVILLE, N.C. — It took firefighters several hours to put out a fire Monday that involved about 200 railroad ties in Statesville.

Officials with the Statesville Fire Department said the fire started around 5:10 a.m. on West Front Street behind Compare Foods.

Nearby roads and the railroad remained open while firefighters battled the flames, officials said.

The fire was extinguished by firefighters around 11:15 a.m. Authorities said no one was injured.

Channel 9 is asking officials what caused the fire.
