MAGGIE VALLEY, N.C. — A fire destroyed a historic motel in Maggie Valley on Saturday.
Crews with the Junaluska Fire Department said the flames at the Heart of the Valley Motel got so intense, they had to fall back and let it burn.

They were able to save the owner’s residence, which is attached to the motel.
Fortunately, no one was staying at the motel and no one was hurt.
The property had just reopened after damage from Hurricane Helene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
