Witness says lightning sparked Ballantyne house fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Fire Department is investigating after a fire started in the attic of a home Sunday night.

Crews said the fire came through the roof of a two-story home off Darby Chase Drive in Ballantyne.

A neighbor said lightning hit the roof of the home and a gas furnace in the attic exploded.

There were strong storms passing through the area at the time and officials said nobody was hurt.
