CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Investigators are working to find the cause of a fire inside the air traffic control tower at Charlotte Douglas Airport Saturday morning.
The fire started just before 9:30 a.m. and the Federal Aviation Administration said non-essential employees were evacuated from the tower.
After the fire was extinguished, air traffic controllers handled traffic at a reduced rate. All employees were able to go back into the control tower just before 10 a.m.
Charlotte-Douglas Airport said operations have been impacted by the incident and there may be some delays. Travelers are encouraged to check with their airlines for the status of their flight.
Authorities are still working to determine what caused the fire in the tower.
