GASTONIA, N.C. — Several fire departments worked to put out a large three-alarm fire at a former hotel in Gastonia Thursday evening.
Fifty firefighters responded around 5:30 p.m. to the Value Lodge hotel on Cox Road near Interstate 85 after EMS personnel driving by called it in.
Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene, where smoke and flames could be seen coming out of the two-story hotel. Firefighters even had to be switched out due to the intense heat.
No one was hurt, officials said.
The owner of the building said it had been abandoned for 10 years and they just got a permit the day before to demolish it.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Lowell Fire Department, Ranlo Fire & Rescue and Dallas Fire Department responded to the scene to help the Gastonia Fire Department.
