MONROE, N.C. — Police said a convicted felon tried to get rid of the evidence during a pursuit Wednesday in Monroe.
According to the Monroe Police Department, it started around 4 p.m. near a home on English Street. Detectives tried to pull over Delco Philip Covington because “they knew Covington has a suspended driver’s license.”
The police department said Covington didn’t stop for the detectives and ended up leading them “on a short pursuit.” Detectives reported that he tossed out a handgun, crack cocaine, and over 150 grams of marijuana out of the window while driving.
The officers found the gun and drugs after the pursuit ended. Covington was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to sell marijuana, possession with intent to sell cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, resist delay and obstruct, littering, and speeding to elude arrest.
He was booked into custody in Union County on a $60,000 bond.
