Agents would only tell Channel 9 they were conducting police activities.
Channel 9 could see an evidence truck parked outside the building.
Sources told reporter Greg Suskin cellphones were seized belonging to Sheriff Alex Underwood, Chief Deputy Robert Sprouse and Narcotics Commander Johnny Neal, as well as computer documents.
No other details have been released about why they were at the Sheriff’s Office.
A Sheriff's Office spokesperson released a statement saying in part, "The Sheriff does not have a statement at this time. He and the staff here are cooperating fully with an obvious investigative matter."
Channel 9 has been asking for months if the FBI is conducting an investigation into Chester County Sheriff Alex Underwood. Agents still have not commented on the presence of any such investigation.
An FBI spokesman said there would be no official comment on Monday's activities.
The sheriff has taken fire in the county over spending in his department and his interactions with other county leaders. He's also faced numerous lawsuits since taking office -- but what all or any of that amounts to legally -- remains to be seen.
