SHELBY, N.C. — A Shelby man was arrested at his home and charged in connection with the Capitol riots that happened on Jan. 6.
Someone sent the FBI a tip that Johnny Leroy Harris posted photos of himself inside the Capitol building to his Facebook page.
FBI agents interviewed Harris on Jan. 19 and said he admitted he was in the Capitol with a megaphone and a flag. He used a GoPro camera and his cellphone to record the events that took place that day, the FBI said.
Harris could also be seen on surveillance video inside the Capitol, including in a hallway near the Rotunda.
Harris was charged with the following:
- Knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority
- Knowingly engaging in disorderly or disruptive conduct in any restricted buildings or grounds
- Violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds
- Knowingly, with intent to impede government business or official functions
- Parading, demonstrating, or picketing in the capitol buildings
