CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police had to block off a portion of South Tryon Street in southwest Charlotte for hours early Monday morning while detectives investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

The collision, which happened around 4 a.m., had the inbound lanes of South Tryon Street closed near Steelecroft Parkway, in front of the hospital until around 7:30 a.m.

Police said the victim, 41-year-old Lakeisha Isaac, was hit by a Toyota Celica that was traveling inbound on South Tryon Street and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said she was not in a crosswalk and was wearing dark-colored clothing.

Police told Channel 9 that the driver involved remained on the scene but they have not said if any charges will be filed.

Drivers in the area had to use Shopton Road and Steele Creek Road as alternate routes.
