Woman charged with DWI after killing bicyclist in south Charlotte, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — A bicyclist has died after being hit by a car in south Charlotte Thursday night, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

It happened just before 8:30 p.m. Thursday on the 300 block of East Woodlawn Road.

At the scene, police found a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder and an unresponsive bicyclist.

The bicyclist, later identified as 41-year-old Jeramie Mitchell Paige, was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

An initial investigation revealed Paige was riding his bicycle without headlights and against traffic when he was struck by the Nissan.

The driver of the Nissan, later identified as 37-year-old Casey Hatley Ruppe, was exiting a parking lot and turning left onto East Woodlawn Road when she hit the victim.

Police said Ruppe was impaired at the time of the crash. She was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
