GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Gaston County Thursday morning.
The collision happened after 4:30 a.m. on Bessemer City Road near Northwest Boulevard.
“You are together every day,” said Amy Garver, whose husband, Matthew Garver, was killed. “You work together, pray together, live together.”
The Garvers were newlyweds. They talked on the phone when he was walking home. The car hit him moments after they hung up.
Police told Channel 9 that they are searching nearby businesses for security video that could help with the investigation. The vehicle did stop, and no charges have been filed.

Last month, Joseph Guthrie was also hit by a car recently.
He spoke with Channel 9 about how he was hurt to hear another person had been hit on the same road.
“It’s mind-blowing, but at the same time I hope it gets figured out about what’s going on out there,” said Guthrie.
Guthrie said he will continue to keep up with the case as more details are released.
