NOW PLAYING ABOVE

DAVIDSON, N.C. — It’s been one year since police said a Davidson woman was killed in her home and no arrests have been made in the case.

Sarah Long, 41, was found dead inside her townhouse on Old Meeting Way on July 23, 2014.

Police said they were called to the home after her boyfriend alerted authorities he hadn’t heard from Sarah Long and was concerned for her well-being.

Investigators said they found Sarah Long lying on her bed with a single gunshot wound to the left side of her head. A gun was reportedly in her left hand, which was resting in the center of her chest.

A medical examiner ruled Sarah Long's death suspicious, noting the weapon was in an "odd location," and also questioning a lack of blood on her left hand that would have pulled the trigger.

Family disputed the possibility of suicide, noting Sarah Long was right-handed.

The medical examiner performed an autopsy and estimated Sarah had died on or about July 19, 2014, a few days before her body was found by police.

The Davidson Police Department ruled her case a homicide but have yet to name any suspects.

Sarah's brother talked with Channel 9 Thursday and said Sarah's death and unsolved case has created a wound unable to heal.

"Sarah was something special," said John Long. "She was fun to be around. She had a personality you wouldn't forget. This whole thing has brought a big, black cloud over our family. Some days I'm mad, some days I'm sad and some days I'm just in complete disbelief over what actually took place. We're just waiting for justice and wanting to understand the facts."

Police have yet to comment on the case. Search warrants Channel 9 obtained show investigators are trying to pinpoint who was inside the home with her the believed night of her death.

Records show investigators have searched Sarah Long's home, electronics, bank and email accounts and a storage unit.

One document Channel 9 uncovered has surprised her family most, Sarah Long's Last Will and Testament.

The court document shows Sarah Long, who family and friends said was separated from her husband at the time, listed her boyfriend as the sole beneficiary to 100 percent of her assets. The document was singed just two months before Sarah Long's death.

Channel 9 later uncovered a settlement agreement between her husband and boyfriend.

"We just want to know what happened that night," said John Long. "We say our prayers every night."

According to search warrants, two people have come forward concerning the believed night of Sarah Long's death. One woman told police she saw Sarah Long enter her home that evening with an unidentified man. Around the same time another woman reportedly heard a loud slam coming from Sarah Long's bedroom.

Anyone with any information on this unsolved homicide is asked to call Davidson police.
