CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte family wants answers after their loved one was gunned down in a west Charlotte neighborhood this weekend.
Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on Major Street around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. They found a man lying in the road suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced the victim -- whom police identified as 27-year-old Rashad Porter -- deceased at the scene.
Porter's family placed flowers, balloons and ribbons at the homicide scene Sunday afternoon.
They told Channel 9 that Porter left behind a 2-year-old son.
"It was so sad to see the victim's mother walking around where he was killed," said one neighbor, who lives just feet away from where Porter was shot. "She actually kneeled down and sat beside where his body had been."
The family said Porter had been to a house on the street where liquor was being sold.
Neighbors said that house has been the cause of many problems and they would like police to investigate it.
"The house definitely brings a lot of trouble to the neighborhood," said one neighbor.
No arrests have been made and CMPD hasn't released a suspect description.
Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-8477 to speak with a Homicide Unit detective.
