CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The family of Micah Atkinson, who was shot and killed three weeks ago, is begging for answers.
Police still have not tracked down the murderer.
"My brother gone," said Curtis Atkinson. "I'll never get to touch him again, or nothing. I'll never get to hear his phone call or nothing."
Curtis Atkinson said his family is completely heartbroken over the death of his only brother.
On Nov. 25, Curtis Atkinson said his brother was visiting friends at Kimmerly Glen Apartments on Endolwood Road when gunshots rang out.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department detectives arrived on the scene shortly before 4 p.m. that day.
"The time I called him, it was four o'clock and I was wondering why he didn't pick up," Curtis Atkinson said. "And they said my brother was dead and I couldn't believe it."
Family members rushed to the scene.
Police said they found 29-year-old Micah Atkinson and another man suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were transported to the hospital where Micah Atkinson died.
"He got a daughter," Curtis Atkinson said. "She had to see her daddy get buried on her birthday and it's killing me. That was my younger brother, we were like this."
Police said Micah Atkinson and the other victim were shot inside one of the apartments and they do not believe the shooting was a random act.
The victim's family is pleading with the public for any information that will help find the killer.
"I want closure for my brother," Curtis Atkinson said. "I want justice for my brother."
The family is willing to put up a reward to help find Micah Atkinson's killer.
