CHARLOTTE — A local family is giving back to other women after an emotional and traumatic birth experience with their twin boys.
“They’re miracles, honestly,” Liz Godwin told Channel 9′s Elsa Gillis. “Everything that they learn, everything that they do, every silly joke that they tell, every friend they make is a reminder to us of how far they have come.”

The 90 days her sons spent in the Atrium Health Levin Children’s NICU inspired a new path for Godwin. She’s now a nursing assistant, and works on the same antepartum floor where her boys spent those critical months.
“The support that we received specifically in the NICU was life changing,” Godwin said. “Those individuals became our family.”
