CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte woman was displaced from her home after a tree fell on her house while she was there as strong storms moved through the Charlotte area Friday.
Delcovia Gettys and her family were in their house along Norris Avenue in north Charlotte shortly after 4 p.m. when a tree fell on their home. She heard a loud bang and then realized a large tree had fallen on the home.
“Out of nowhere, I heard “boom,” Gettys said. “I thought it was thunder. I heard screaming, crying from my bedroom.”

Gettys said she realized the tree came from a nearby yard once she went outside to see the damage. Neighbors came to Gettis’ yard to see if everyone was okay.
Gettys and her family will be staying with her parents and at a hotel until the damage to the house can be fixed. The Red Cross is also assisting the family
The family went to the emergency room to be checked on. No one suffered any serious injuries.
“It can happen to anyone,” Gettys said. “I’m just glad it was daylight when it happened.”
