CHARLOTTE — A tiny restaurant thought to be one of eastern North Carolina’s oldest barbecue joints has closed, going the way many longtime eateries in Charlotte have in recent years.

Bunn’s Barbecue is a trek from here — some 285 miles from the heart of Charlotte’s center city, tucked into a century-old former service station in the small, Bertie County community of Windsor. It had been a staple there for 85 years and, for some vacationers headed to parts of the Outer Banks, a memorable place to stop for a bite on the way to the coast.
The restaurant, located along the Cashie River and less than 20 miles from the Albemarle Sound, had even bounced back from multiple floods.
