CHARLOTTE — With the heat index in the Carolinas hitting triple digits, it’s important for both people and pets to stay safe.
According to experts, dogs release and retain heat differently than humans. So it’s important for their owners to know how to care for their paws in extreme temperatures.
Channel 9 meteorologist Madi Baggett sat down with the owner of PetBAR, Kassandra Patterson, who shared grooming tips to keep your four-legged friend cool this summer.

“Brushing, making sure that you’re removing that dead hair, debris from having dog walks with your dog, bathing as well, making sure you’re thoroughly drying your dog,” Patterson said.
Patterson also said it’s important to trim your dog’s nails and clean out their ears to prevent bacteria buildup.
The warmest hours of the day tend to be between 2 and 6 p.m.; it may be too hot for your dog to even be outside.
Just remember, if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog.
