NORTH CAROLINA — The Mega Millions jackpot climbed to a staggering $830 million for Tuesday night’s drawing.
The numbers drawn were: 7, 29, 60, 63, 66 (15)
Already in the Carolinas, there have been two million dollar winners over the last few weeks.
Ahead of the drawing, local store owners and managers said they expect more people to show up as we get closer to the drawing.
“I could use this money. Kids in college, law school, new house, this could come in handy,” customer Emily Spector said.
Reporter Glenn Counts was at one of the top lottery-selling stores in Charlotte on Tuesday where he talked to those hoping to beat the 1 in 303 million chance to win the jackpot.
One of those lottery players previously won $50,000, but he said he hasn’t given up on the jackpot.
“It’s great I mean $50,000 it’s, ‘Wow man. I just won all this money,’” Chad Greene said. “But when it sinks in, you’re one number away from $435 million. That’s when it’s, like, oh no.”
If the winner is in North Carolina, it might be awhile before their name is released to the public thanks to a change the legislature made a couple of years ago.
“Anyone who wins $50 million or more can opt to be anonymous for 90 days before their name is announced,” said Van Denton, with the N.C. Education Lottery.
