The Mayor's Mentoring Alliance hosted its annual award ceremony and celebrated those who dedicate their time to the young people in the community.

Statistics show young people who have mentors are more likely to be involved in:

  • 55 percent more likely to be enrolled in college
  • 81 percent more likely to report participating regularly in sports or extracurricular activities
  • 78 percent more likely to volunteer regularly in their communities
  • More than twice as likely to say they held a leadership position in a club or sports team

The same research shows that one in three young people in our country will grow up without a mentor.

"In order to have a clear trajectory of your life, you need adults that are around you, they care about you. They're there to support you every step of the way," said Tiffany Johnson, a specialist with Mayor’s Mentoring Alliance.

Mentees were among others who were also honored at the event hosted by Eyewitness News anchor Brittney Johnson.
