CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A serious crash Friday afternoon blocked outer Interstate 485 near Moores Chapel Road in west Charlotte.

Traffic was at a standstill at about 5:15 p.m. when a white SUV traveling about 70 to 75 mph slammed into two vehicles stopped in the right lane, authorities said.

Troopers said the driver didn’t apply the brakes.

Good Samaritans, including trained physicians, quickly rushed to the crash victims’ aid.

"There were quite a number, when I first got out of my vehicle,” operations supervisor for MEDIC Don Shue said. “I had two doctors and ER physician from Statesville come up to me offering their assistance.”

Chopper 9 Skyzoom was flying over the interstate and saw at least two miles of back-ups around 5:45 p.m.

Three people were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital, per Mecklenburg EMS

Everyone in the crash is going to be OK, troopers said.

All lanes reopened early Friday evening.

The driver of the SUV was charged with reckless driving and failure to reduce speed.
