GASTONIA, N.C. — The Highway Patrol is investigating a crash Friday morning that killed a Gaston County man driving a Ford Mustang, according to our partners at the Gaston Gazette.
A heavy first responder presence could be seen lined along Lewis Road in south Gastonia, near Crowders Mountain, following the wreck, which happened around 6:30 a.m.
A first responder on the scene told Channel 9 the driver was killed.
State troopers, police, firefighters and EMS responded to the scene.
According to the Highway Patrol, the Mustang ran off the road, hit a mailbox and then overturned after striking a culvert. The man was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His name has not been released.

Lewis Road was shut down between Freedom Mill Road and Chapel Grove School Road while troopers investigated.
