ECU professor arrested on child pornography charges

GREENVILLE, N.C. — The Federal Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Eastern Carolina University professor on charges of child pornography, according to reports from WCTI.

Dr. Blace Nalavany, 57, is facing ten counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Nalavany worked at ECU as an associate professor of social work since 2006.

He also worked as a licensed clinical social worker who worked with children.

ECU released a statement regarding the incident saying:

“We are aware of the arrest on Jan. 27, 2025, of an East Carolina University faculty member. The university is in communication with law enforcement, and we will continue to cooperate in any capacity asked as they investigate the disturbing allegations. Today, following applicable UNC System Policy, the university moved to place Blace Nalavany, 57, associate professor, on administrative suspension while the investigation continues. He was hired Aug. 21, 2006. Since this is an ongoing investigation, the university cannot say anything further.”
