Sheriff: Lockdown lifted at East Union MS; student tip deemed not credible

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A lockdown at East Union Middle School in Marshville was lifted Friday after a student’s tip was found to be not credible, authorities said.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office said the school was placed on a full lockdown due to a tip provided by a student about a possible threat inside the school.

Deputies said the tip does not appear to be credible and the lockdown was a precautionary measure. They said there is no active threat to the school.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the school around 12 p.m. and could see parents in groups outside the school.

School officials confirmed no weapons were found during the investigation. Channel 9′s Hannah Goetz learned law enforcement went through the school classroom by classroom to make sure everyone was OK.

The lockdown was lifted just before 12:45 p.m.

East Union will dismiss at a normal time Friday, officials said.
