CHARLOTTE — Charlotte Water has announced Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood will reopen after a month-long repair to a water main pipe.

Work started on Feb. 7 to fix the pipe underneath Central Avenue between The Plaza and Hawthorne Lane.

The repair was supposed to be completed by Feb. 21 and was extended to March 17. The road is expected to be open by 5 p.m., according to Charlotte Water.

“We initially had a wastewater overflow where water was coming out of a manhole that became an emergency response, and we found the water was coming from a broken water main under the railroad crossing,” said Cam Coley, with Charlotte Water.

The project includes stopping wastewater from overflowing due to the leak, inspecting drinking water, replacing an old manhole, and installing new water valves and pipes to keep the water on.
