CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Lynn Good was the highest-paid utility CEO in the United States last year, with her $21.5 million total compensation beating her nearest rival by almost $3 million.
And according to a new analysis by S&P Global Market Intelligence, the 175-1 disparity between her 2017 compensation and the median employee compensation at Duke Energy Corp. is the largest among utility companies.
To find the highest-paid CEO, the Charlotte Business Journal looked at the total pay package for the top executives at the nation’s 20 largest investor-owned utilities, ranked by market capitalization.
Duke is now the nation’s second-largest utility on that scale. The CEO of the largest, James Robo of Florida-based Next Era Energy, racked up $18.8 million in total compensation. Debra Reed, CEO of San Diego-based gas utility Sempra Energy, reached $18 million in total compensation.
