SOUTH CAROLINA — Duke Energy Carolinas customers in South Carolina could soon see an increase in their monthly bills. Duke Energy Corp. announced Wednesday morning it is seeking approval from the Public Service Commission of South Carolina for rate increases to cover higher fuel costs.

If approved, the action would increase the average monthly residential bill by 7.1%. A residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours monthly would see a $9.23 increase on their bill — to $138.59 from $129.36.
